The fabric

Woodmark has been carefully designed to feel like an antique fabric. It is a traditional tree of life design on a tea stained cotton background. The embroidery colours are rich and earthy; greens including moss, sage, fern and forest, pinks including deep, dusky, rose and magenta. All are highlighted with a surprising touch of cornflower blue, hidden in the pattern.

If you are replacing old curtains in a well established room of your home, using a crewel in the style of an antique fabric like Woodmark means your curtains will immediately settle into their environment without an unwanted sheen of newness.

If you are creating a completely new scheme, Woodmark’s earthy palette brings a feeling of an antique fabric that will add age and patina to your scheme. There are plenty of colours to draw inspiration from if you use Wooodmark curtains as the starting point of the scheme. You could select one of Woodmark’s beautiful greens for your sofa, and complement it with a small patterned pink for your accompanying chairs, all surrounding the cosy fire and facing each other for great conversation.

When reupholstering an antique, whether passed down through generation or picked up from an auction house, by using a style of antique fabric like Woodmark you can be sure that you are paying respect to the heritage of your furniture.

Woodmark is a warm, classic fabric design, often specified by interior designers when they want to add patina and gravitas to a scheme, to make it look as though it has always been there, and evolved over generations. In fact, the classic English Country House style.

The History
Inspired by the intricate designs of bed hangings from the 17th and 18th centuries, this is an antique style fabric with an earthy palette. It is a collection of traditional motifs joined together by the trailing vines of the classic tree of life design. Within the large pattern repeat of almost a metre, there are a number of variations on the stylized flowers and leaves that make up the crewel patterns that originated in medieval times.

Suitability
Made from natural fibres, Woodmark will work with the changes in both temperature and moisture levels in modern and period properties. Woodmark is suitable for upholstery of occasional and statement chairs, ottomans, footstools, daybeds and chaises. For soft furnishings, Woodmark makes luxurious cushions and bedspreads. As a window dressing, Woodmark can be used for curtains, pelmets and blinds.

Use Woodmark when you want to add age and patina to a scheme. The depth and variety of colours works well in a mixed interior scheme; one built up over time to create a lived in and homely character.
