The fabric

Janpath is a pretty floral fabric, hand embroidered on a butter-cream cotton background with flowers in dark pink, dusky rose and pinky lavender joined by trailing vines and stylized leaves in moss and sage green. It is a traditional floral fabric with a soft and tactile texture, delicately patterned but discreet enough to fit into an existing scheme.

Suitability

Janpath is a delicate floral fabric which is reminiscent of an English country garden. It works beautifully in a sitting room or snug looking out over the flower beds. We also love to see Janpath in a bedroom or dressing room. The muted and natural colour palette is calming and tranquil.

Janpath makes a lovely cushion, check it out in our shop.

The History

Janpath is named after a neighbourhood in New Delhi, and the design is inspired by the traditional floral patterns of India.

It was mainly during the reign of Mughal ruler Jahangir, from the 17th century onwards, that the flower and leaf became inextricably linked with Indian textile design.

Emperor Jahangir had a great love of nature. He loved to travel to the beautiful floral gardens of Kashmir in the spring and his court painter painted all the beautiful flowers he saw there.

Our Janpath is a pretty floral fabric following in the footsteps of hundreds of years of floral design from India.
